25th Annual Sawtooth ScheduledThe 25th Annual Sawtooth Ski races have been scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2009. There will be a 10km classical race followed by a 20km freestyle race. The whole family can enjoy the fun as we also have Kid's Races. Make plans to attend the Pasta Feed when you arrive in town on Friday night, it is a fun event and a fundraiser for the Cook County Youth Nordic Ski League. Of course, all races are held on the beautiful Pincushion Mountain Ski trails with reliable snow and impeccable Pisten Bully grooming. Check back to this site for registration forms or on-line registration.
Pincushion Suffers Storm DamageThe trails received extensive damage from the June 6 rain storm Hiking and Mt. biking/cyclocross riding is still possible but be prepared for rough trail conditions, difficult stream crossings (some impossible) and unexpected trail surface holes around culverts. Long sections of trail have also been gullied with the dirt riding/hiking path carved out from 6-12 inches deep. Recovery and rebuilding of bridges and replacement of culverts and trail surface is currently being assessed. Most likely this will take all summer and into the fall since the current conditions are wet on most sections of trail. We hope to have repairs completed by late summer or fall, in time for the 2008/09 ski season. Some funding is already secured and can be redirected from previously planned projects. Our more ambitious projects such as rebuilding ditches and upgrading water diversion structures may be delayed for a couple of years.
The Pincushion
Mountain Trail System is a 25 kilometer silent sport trail system perched
high above Lake Superior, 2 miles north of Grand Marais, Minnesota.
Because of its varied terrain, excellent trail design and spectacular
vistas of Lake Superior and Devil Track River canyon, this trail system is
enjoyed by thousands annually for cross country skiing, snow shoeing,
hiking, running and mountain biking.
Guess what? It's free to ski at Pincushion with a Minnesota Ski Pass, but we do encourage a $5 per person / day donation. Our yellow donation box is located on the main entrance sign, just below the Warming Chalet. This site hosted courtesy of North Shore Federal Credit Union |
